Course Care

As we approach the winter months, we’d like to remind members about course care.

Growth has nearly stopped, so turf recovery is very slow. It has been proven through research that every divot that is not filled with sand takes twice as long to recover. Sand helps the grass grow over and fills the divot hole made by each golfer. Please fill in as many divots as possible, especially if you are waiting on a Par 3. I would ask every member to use a full bucket of sand every few holes. This will make a huge difference in course care and help with winter recovery.

Speed of play

As the greens get quicker, the speed of play become slower. Common sense would tell us more shots, means more time on the course. I would like to remind all golfers of some simple steps to assist in speed of play.

  • Play ready golf, there is no need to play in order, unless you are in danger.
  • Once you have putted out, move to the next tee and be ready to play.
  • Keep up with the group in front at all times.
  • Call up on Par 3’s if it is sensible to do so. (keep going, if you are behind in the field)

Keep moving at all times, if safe to do so. Be ready to play when it is your turn to hit the shot. (Review your putt or yardage while you wait)

Course Ranger – Ros Black

Many of you will already know Ros Black, but for those who don’t, Ros has been a member at Mona Vale for 32 years and participates in golf regularly. Her father John Beale was a life member at our Club.
Ros has been Women’s Club Champion 5 times in the past 10 years. She is full of charisma and delightful to be around.
Ros is our new Course Ranger!
Ros will be out on the course many days throughout the week ensuring that the pace of play is adhered to. If Ros comes up to you during a round, please be respectful and listen to the directions she is giving. This will help everyone get around the course smoothly and hopefully allow more enjoyment of the round.
