Saturday, 19th October, marked the final round of our Men’s Club Championship, and what a day it was! With three previous scores accumulating to determine our winners, Saturday’s round was the moment of truth for our contenders.
It was fantastic to see members gathering along the balcony, cheering and sighing at every putt as the players battled through the last four holes. The atmosphere was electric – the perfect way to crown our champions!
Congratulations to Richard Dixon, our C Grade Champion once again! Richard successfully defended his title from last year, making him a back-to-back winner. Runner-up Karl Effenberg had a stellar round with 92 shots but was just two shots shy of Richard’s overall total. A close and exciting finish!
In B Grade, a huge round of applause for Ben Tran, who clinched the title with a fantastic final round, shooting 88 and finishing a full 9 shots ahead of Richard Tebbutt, our B Grade champion from 2021. Ben had a secret weapon for the day – his dad Henry, who acted as his lucky caddie!
A Reserve Champion: Congratulations to Anthony Heinrichs for his first-ever club championship win! Anthony was in the lead after the first two rounds, slipped to second in round three, but came back stronger than ever in the fourth round. He finished with a six-shot lead over runner-up Jack Ritchie. Jack, who was the 2022 B Grade Champion, has made impressive strides in just two years to claim the A Reserve runner-up spot. If we’re placing bets for next year’s A Reserve Champion, Jack will definitely be one to watch!
And now, the moment we’ve all been waiting for…
2024 Club Champion – Bruce Edwards!
A massive congratulations to Bruce Edwards, our 2024 Club Champion! This marks Bruce’s third time taking home the top title, having previously won in 2007 and 2017. Bruce has been playing extremely well in recent years, and this win is well-deserved. The competition was tight, with Bruce edging out runner-up Shannon Cameron by just 3 shots!
Shannon deserves a special mention for his incredible fight. He started the final round trailing by 7 shots but battled back to square things up with Bruce by the 13th hole. Unfortunately for Shannon, Bruce managed to birdie the 14th and par the 15th to secure the win. Well done to both for making it such an exciting finish!
That’s a wrap for this year’s Club Championships! Time to hit the practice greens – we’ve got 11 months until round 1 of the next Club Championships!
