Our moderate summer rolls on and I trust you have had the opportunity to get onto the course and play a few rounds. Apart from our regular daily events and prizes, there are a number of competitions that run in the background across the membership year that you may not be aware of. These events reward consistency and regular participation of members and attract cash prizes for the winners.
The Women’s events start after the Women’s Opening Day (February 2025). This year, the Order of Merit and the Eclectic for women will run from February to the end of the membership year but in 2025/26 those events will be in-sync with the membership year. So, to this point no results for the Women members as they are just beginning their competitions.
The men’s events started August 1st, 2024, and run until May and June 2025 depending on the event.
It is time to update standings in the Men’s competitions:
They include:
- Men’s “Order of Merit”: This competition is a cumulative total of points earned in member competitions (Wednesday & Saturday). It runs in the background and your current position can be found on the website under Order of Merit.
- Eclectic competition: in this competition, your best score on an individual hole during the year is recorded to enable you to calculate the lowest round total you achieved for 18 holes over the year. We have a gross eclectic event, which is a non-handicap event and a grade handicapped net eclectic event.
- T20 competition: This competition is modelled off the FedEx Cup event in the PGA and rewards performance in Saturday competition to those who come in the top 60 each week. Points they achieved each week accumulate and are scaled according to place, as in the PGA. The top 60 qualifiers contest a relegation final on May 11th, and the field is reduced to 32 for the Final on May 18th. Details are located under the Order of Merit tab on the website.
All events attract cash prizes ($50-$700) and some prestige if you ask those who win them!!
Current running positions are as follows as of 6/2/25.
Men’s Order of Merit:
Leader is John Helm 550.5 pts with Mitch Harris second on 494pts and Glenn Powers third on 485.5 pts.
Eclectic competition:
Gross eclectic at this stage in the Men’s comp shows Greg Stanford and Bruce Edwards on Gross 52 strokes. 5 players are on 54 strokes. They are Mark McInnes, Stefan Albinski, Justin Hurst, Graham Nes and Jack Mcleod. Very tight indeed!
Nett eclectic scores for A, B & C are also available for review on the website.
B Grade leader is Paul Gilliland and C Grade leader is Ben Miller.
T20:
T20 standings currently have the leader as David Shorten 1340 pts, Peter Fakos, 1271 pts and Josh Blyth 3rd on 1176 points. Plenty of time to accumulate a total before May!
I look forward to continued enthusiastic participation in these events, which we hope adds to your enjoyment as a member of MVGC.
Cheers, Graeme MacDougal
