Round 5 – Sunday 16th Febraury V Richmond @ Pennant Hills
Sunday, we travelled to Pennant Hills to face Richmond in our final match of the season. Although we couldn’t make the finals, we hoped for a strong finish. Unfortunately, Richmond played very well and won 4/1.
Most matches were tight, with several finishing on the last two holes. Congratulations to Susie Cole and Mike Radford for a solid 2/1 win. Matt Tuinman and Lisa Sray, after being 5 down, fought back to lose 1 down. My partner, Jamie Bennant, played consistently, but we lost 2/1 after squaring the 17th hole. Mitch Harris and Ros Black held their ground against a strong female opponent and her low-handicap partner, losing 3/2. Kevin Rule and Rosey Smith fought hard but finished 2 down.
A special thanks to Leigh Williamson for preparing scorecards each week and managing the hosting of the 4 visiting Clubs at Mona Vale two weeks ago, earning great feedback about our course and clubhouse. Leigh had to withdraw after two games due to injury. Thanks also to Sean McKeon for his excellent work as “Field Marshall” and for presenting weekly team speeches and Match Reports. Sean played in 4 of the 5 matches.
Finally, thank you to Julie Alcock, Marg Stack and Jack Watkinson for being on standby each week as our reserves.
Moore Park and Pennant Hills will advance from our Division to the finals, with both being the only teams that didn’t beat us!! As Kevin Rule said, “A couple of small things could have gone our way, and it would be different.”
